Edward Longhofer, Jr.

Edward (Eddie) Longhofer, Jr. 70, passed away September 20, 2018 at his residence in Brenham, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, with Pastor Jill Vivroux officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Eddie Longhofer, Jr. was born March 25, 1948 in Weslaco to Edward Sr. and Elsie June Fredricksen Longhofer, the oldest of four children. He worked part-time for Woodson Lumber Co, and continued there full time after graduating from high school. He was a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a degree in accounting, returning to work for Woodson Lumber Co. as manager for many years. Eddie established his own business, Longhofer Home Design & Construction, retiring in 2014. His entire working career was in construction.

Eddie was a member of the council at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, serving as president, vice-president, treasurer, also serving on the property committee. He was also instrumental in establishing the Endowment Fund for the church. He also sang with the Prairie Hill Gospel singers, the men’s choir, and was a member of the men’s cooking group. Other memberships included the Salem Fire Department and Boy Scouts of America.

Hunting, fishing and traveling were favorite pastimes. He treasured time spent with his family, especially during the holidays. Eddie cherished time spent with his granddaughter, Taylen.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Longhofer; son, Damian and Tiffany Rasmussen of Bryan; grandaughter Taylen Rasmussen, sister: June Gerson; brother, John Longhofer (Cyndi); brother-in-law, John Sommerlatte; nieces: Anna Longhofer, Gina Stack, Julee Gerson; nephews: Garrett Longhofer, Matthew Sommerlatte, and Adam Gerson. Also surviving are many relatives and friends.

Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Longhofer; daughter, Janice Elaine Longhofer; parents Edward and Elsie Longhofer; sister Ellen Jane Sommerlatte; brother-in-law, Joseph Gerson.

Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.
