Edward Longhofer, Sr.

Edward Longhofer, Sr., 88, husband of Elsie Longhofer, died February 25, 2013 in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor Ken Weiss officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Edward Longhofer, Sr. was born October 5, 1924 in Shattuck, OK to Benjamin and Magdalena Appel Longhofer. After serving his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II aboard the transport ship USS American Legion and later continued his relationship to the services thru membership in the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was later employed as a lumberyard manager of several locations beginning in Elsa, Mc Allen, and Cameron. Upon moving to Brenham to manage Woodson Lumber Co. the Longhofers fell in love with the community where he completed his career in lumber and homebuilding. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Fredricksen Longhofer; sons and daughter-in-law Eddie Jr. and Mary Longhofer of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law Eledra June and Joseph Gerson of Mansfield, Tx, son-in-law John Sommerlatte of Conroe, Tx, son and daughter-in-law, John and Cyndi Longhofer of Brenham; grandchildren: Gina and Matthew Stack , Damian Rasmussen and wife Tiffany, Joseph Adam Gerson, Julee Nicole Gerson, and Matthew Sommerlatte, Garrett and Anna Longhofer; great-grandchildren: Addison Jane Stack, and Taylen Lea Rasmussen; brothers: Vernon Longhofer of Katy, Floyd Longhofer of San Antonio, Jesse and Kathleen Longhofer of Harlingen, Tx, and Harold and Carolyn Longhofer of Katy, Tx; sisters: Anna Kieschnick of San Antonio, Tx, Wilba Koch of Flatonia, Tx, Juliana Longhofer of San Antonio, Tx, Bob and Katherine Derryberry of Moulton, Tx, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Jane Sommerlatte, a daughter-in-law, Joyce Marie Langenegger Longhofer, granddaughter, Janice Elaine Longhofer; brother, Melvin Longhofer, sister Bonita Longhofer Thomas, and mother-in-law, Bertha Canterbury. His grandsons Matthew Stack, Matthew Sommerlatte, Damian Rasmussen, Garrett Longhofer and nephews Kyle Longhofer and Kevin Longhofer will be serving as pallbearers for his service.
