Edwin H. Korth, 94, of Brenham, died October 24, 2004, in Bluebonnet Care Center in Brenham. Mr. Korth was born July 5, 1910, to Fritz and Betty Weise Korth in Zionsville community, Washington County, Texas. He was baptized on November 20, 1910, by Rev. Johannes Mgebroff and was confirmed on September 14, 1924, by Rev. Wm. Utesch in Eben Ezer Lutheran Church. His confirmation verse was Isaiah 6:3 Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. Edwin attended Williams School. Edwin was married to Annie Rodenbeck on December 6, 1936, in Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. Wm. Utesch. Edwin and Annie lived all their married life in the same house, with some additions throughout the years, in the Pleasant Hill community. Two daughters were born to this marriage, Joy Ann and Gloria Jean. As a young man, Mr. Korth loved to ride horses. He was an avid horseman. He raised quarter horses and cattle, enjoyed riding horses and calf roping. He was a farmer and rancher. He took pride in his cattle and horses. He didn t have any sons, but at times he tried to make his daughters his sons. They would help with his cattle, ride horses and help with the farm chores. Edwin Korth is survived by his wife of 67-plus years, Annie of Pleasant Hill; daughter and sons-in-law, Joy Ann and Raymond Dickschat of Washington and John A. Sommer of Boerne; six grandsons and their wives, Brian and Joyce Lynn Dickschat of Brenham, Rodney and Celeste Dickschat of Washington, John A. Jr. and Marilyn Sommer of San Antonio, Mark Dickschat of Washington, Richard and Kelleigh Sommer of Bulverde and Dustin and Diana Dickschat of Irving; six great-grandchildren, Tracy Dickschat and Trevor Dickschat of Washington, Joseph Lee Dickschat and John Lane Dickschat of Brenham, Lindy Sommer of San Antonio and Sam Sommer of Bulverde; and sister-in-law, Norma Winkelmann of Brenham. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gloria Jean Sommer, on December 26, 1993; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Helen Korth, Walter and Cora Korth, Herbert Korth; sisters and brothers-in-law, Minnie and Fred Rosentreter, Lillie and Otto Weidner, Eleanor and Tom Cecil; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lillie and Charlie Tesch, Elsie and Reinhold Poehlmann, William S. Winkelmann and Otto Sonny Rodenbeck. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 27 in Salem Lutheran Church in Salem with Pastor Bill Derrick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 26 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Brian Dickschat, Rodney Dickschat, Mark Dickschat, Dustin Dickschat, John A. Sommer, Jr. and Richard Sommer. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Engeling, Walter Korth, Jr., Norman Winkelmann, Ralph Poehlmann, Fred Winkelmann and Robert Luetge. Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church or to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham. 979-836-4564.
