Edwin Seeker, Sr.

Edwin August Seeker, Sr., 90, of Brenham, died July 17, 2005, in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Mr. Seeker was born October 1, 1914, in the Kuykendall community to Adolph and Emma Stegemueller Seeker. He was baptized by Pastor F. Apfelbach and was confirmed by Pastor Paul Gogolin on April 21, 1929, at St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. On October 11, 1936, he was married to Emma Ehlert by Paul Czerkus in San Antonio. They lived in Houston, and Mr. Seeker worked at Houston Ship Channel as a master welder during World War II. They moved back to Brenham in 1942, where he managed the A&P Grocery for two years. They moved to the farm in 1944 and worked the land for the rest of his life. Mr. Seeker was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, where he served on the council when the parish house was built in 1954, was a founding member of the Brotherhood, and was chairman of the 100th anniversary celebration. He was also a charter member of Prairie Hill-Rocky Hill Fire Department and secretary of Farmers Mutual Aid of Washington County. One of his passions was raising hogs. Some of his hogs were purchased by the Department of Livestock Development of Thailand. Some were also sent to Korea to be used as foundation stock. His second love was hunting deer. Mr. Seeker served as chair of the swine committee for the Washington County Fair, was an election judge and was founder and board member of the N.E. Washington County Water Supply from April 1980-1999. He received the Friend of 4-H Award. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Emma Seeker of Brenham; a son and daughter-in-law, Edwin Jr. and LaNell Seeker of Brenham; a daughter, Emma Jean Seeker of Brenham; two grandsons and their wives, Russell and Tina Seeker of Brenham and Troy and Carol Seeker of Brenham; three great-grandchildren, Colby, Hunter and Emily Seeker; a sister-in-law, Dolores Seeker of Brenham; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Mr. Seeker was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur Seeker and Eugene Seeker; two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. The funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill with Pastor Sue Beall officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 18 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Linda and Garral Tiaden, Connie and Barnay Glaesmann, Christin and Kenneth Seeker and Donna Seeker. Honorary pallbearers will be Judy Steinfeld, Larry Autry and Tom DeVault. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill Cemetery Fund.
