Edwin Weiss Jr.,87, of Brenham passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 7, 2021.
Edwin was born on April 14, 1934 to Edwin and Linda (Wiesepape) Weiss. From early childhood, he was called “Bonnie”, but no one ever knew why. He married Edna Naumann on April 15, 1956 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill, Texas. They were lifelong residents of Brenham and the parents of six children: Bonnie Brinkmeyer (Michael), Debbie Von Gonten (Ken), Rick Weiss (Leslie), Lois Wilhelm (Wayne), Bill Weiss (Kathleen), and Lori Ross (Jason). They have also been blessed with twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Edwin was a great father and role model for his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and so many others. He leaves a legacy of Christian and community service. He was strong in his faith and active in his church where he served in leadership roles for many years. He learned to play the guitar at an early age and his musical talent was part of many worship services as he lifted up his heart in song. He was also able to share this gift as part of many weddings and celebrations in the community and he offered Gospel music to local nursing homes until he was in his mid-80s.
His career in building and construction extended for over 60 years and he built or remodeled many homes in Brenham and the surrounding area. He was a skilled craftsman and took great pride in his work. In spite of losing two finger tips while building a house, he was still able to work in construction and play the guitar. All of his life he was quiet, calm and soft-spoken, yet strong, witty and wise. He was kind and helped anyone who needed his help.
He enjoyed outdoor hobbies such as gardening, deer hunting, cattle raising, and designing and building all kinds of wood creations. He and Edna enjoyed dancing, traveling, watching Brenham Cubs baseball, and spending time in the country home that he designed and built in 1974.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gilbert Weiss and two sisters, Irene Brinkmeyer and Louise Stroech, son, Bill Weiss, and grandson, Clinton Wilhelm. He is survived by his wife, Edna Weiss, his brother, Jimmie Weiss, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
