Eleanor Tielke

Eleanor Scheffer Tielke, age 93, passed away on March 13, 2018.

Eleanor was born in the Sandy Hill community on September 23, 1924 to Charles and Henrietta Buerger Scheffer.

Eleanor was baptized by Rev. George Czerkus of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill on November 30, 1924 and confirmed in that church on March 26, 1940 by Rev. Rudolph Becker.

She was educated in the Sandy Hill Public School.

Eleanor and Raymond F. Tielke were united in marriage on June 6, 1943 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill by Rev. W.C. Poehlmann. The couple made their home in Needville until they moved to Brenham in 1948. Their union was blessed with four daughters. Eleanor and Raymond were married sixty-one years when he preceded her in death on September 15, 2004.

Eleanor was a homemaker and loved to cook, bake, garden, sew and quilt. She and Raymond enjoyed dancing, playing pitch and dominoes with their friends, traveling and getting the family together for special occasions. Eleanor was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cared for her family very much and they were a source of great joy for her. After Raymond passed away, she made her home in a Kruse Village Cottage and later in one of the apartments where she made many new friends and enjoyed a full and rewarding life. The family is very grateful to all of the Kruse Village staff, especially LaRoche Assisted Living and Nursing Care. We truly appreciate the loving care you provided our loved one.

Eleanor was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham since 1950. She was active in Ladies Aid, Cradle Roll and Altar Guild.

Eleanor is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Patsy and Rayburn Klussmann, Judy and Ernie Weatherby and Cheryl and Jay Alexander. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jennie Krause and husband Kyle, Tina Meyer and husband Bryan, Destre Koehl and husband Blaine, Lance Weatherby and wife Kim, Kristen Kestler and husband Bryan, Melanie Baker and husband John David, Jess Alexander and wife Ashley and Jenalee Alexander. Also, fourteen great grandchildren: Kaylin Lawrence and husband Brandon, Kullen Krause, Riley, Raeben and Ellie Meyer, Braylee, Breyson and Barnes Koehl, Elizabeth and Ethan Weatherby, Conner and Kamryn Kestler, Dylan and Kylie Baker: step great grandsons; Brandon, Drew and Zachry Horne; brother, Edward Scheffer, sister, Mae Thielemann, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Willie Mae Tielke, Viola Fuchs, Caroline Macik, Marje Janacek, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Tielke, daughter Connie Kay Tielke, parents Charles and Henrietta Scheffer, father-in-law and mother-in-law Willie and Minnie Tielke, granddaughter Malet Markwardt Weatherby, brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Gladys Scheffer, sister and brother-in-law Minnie and Alvin Scurlock, sister-in-law Carrie Scheffer, brother-in-law Eugene Thielemann, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lee Roy and Alice Tielke, Ora Lee and Clarence Lamensky, Clarence Fuchs, Frank Macik Jr. and Lony Tielke, nephews James Scheffer, Floyd Scheffer, Gary Scheffer, Troy Tielke, Gary Tielke, and niece Patricia Lamensky.

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Lance Weatherby, Jess Alexander, Kyle Krause, Bryan Meyer, Blaine Koehl, Bryan Kestler and John David Baker.

Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Jennie Krause, Tina Meyer, Kristen Kestler, Destre Koehl, Melanie Baker, Jenalee Alexander, Ashley Alexander and Kim Weatherby.

Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, March 17th, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Eleanor Scheffer Tielke will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 18th, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, 305 West Third St., with Pastor Phil Fenton and Pastor Bri Merkle officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

Memorials in Eleanor’s memory may be directed to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Paul’s Christian Day School, Adam’s Angels Ministry, Compassionate Care Hospice of Bellville, or a charity of your choice.
