Eleanor Weiss

Eleanor Weiss, 90, widow of Alfred Weiss, passed away March 25, 2011 in Kruse Memorial Village in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2011 at St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Phillip Fenton will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Eleanor Schmidt Weiss was born at Prairie Hill in Washington County, Texas on July 17, 1920, the daughter of Oscar and Hannah Striebe Schmidt. She was baptized July 18, 1920 in Prairie Hill by Pastor F. Apfelbach, and confirmed April 14, 1935 in St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham by Pastor Arthur Hartmann. On September 28, 1940, she was married to Alfred Weiss in the same church by Pastor Theo. R. Strang. A faithful member of the St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, she taught in the primary department of the Sunday School for 25 years from 1950 through 1975 and also taught Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Women of the Church Circle in which she held various offices and served on ushering teams. Eleanor was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Gay Hill-Mound Hill-Cedar Hill Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She and Alfred were long-time members of the Top Cat Dance Club. Traveling was a favorite pastime. Mrs. Weiss was educated at Brenham High School and attended Blinn College. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a sister-in-law, one sisters-in-law, Gladys Weiss of Brenham; two nephews, six nieces and numerous cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, her parents, three sisters-in-law, Edna Weiss, Clara Strangmeyer, and Norma Borchgardt, four brothers-in-law Melvin Weiss, Herbert Weiss, George Strangmeyer and Walter Borchgardt. Serving as pallbearers are Kenneth Weiss, Robert Loesch, Charles Spinn, Gilbert Janner, Harper Muery, Eugene Sefcik, Dan Borchgardt, and Tommy Meier. Hononorary pallbearers are J. R. Bredthauer, Leroy Hodde, Bennie Emshoff, William Houston, and Arnold Peters, Jr. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham.
