Eleanora Meyer

June 25, 1938 — July 4, 2013

Eleanora Evelyn Meyer nee Rosenbaum, age 75 of Houston, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013. She was born to the late Edward Rosenbaum and Marie Alaminski Rosenbaum on June 25, 1938. Eleanora met the love of her life, Billy Meyer, at the Washington County Fair. Like a classic love story, he saw her from a distance, was introduced and was smitten. Both had dated others, as young people do, but knew they had found something special in each other. They talked for hours at that first meeting, eventually marrying and moving to Houston to build a life together. They were married for 54 years. Theirs was a carefully planned and joyous life together until her sudden and tragic illness changed their course only a few short weeks ago. Eleanora is a graduate of Brenham High School. She worked as a secretary in her younger years, proofread construction blueprints and eventually managed accounting operations for ATCO Packaging. Eleanora was active through the years in church circle, first at Zion Lutheran and then at Kinsmen Lutheran, both in Houston. Eleanora''s passion was working in her flower beds, often winning Yard of the Month in their neighborhood of Tower Oaks. Her azaleas are near-legendary. Her rose garden contains antique roses from her mother''s home that she cultivated from clippings over 30 years ago. She made a habit of taking clippings from various travels, coaxing holly and fir trees from Virginia, lilies and Mimosa from Hearne and other plants, such as a Confederate Rose and trumpet plant, given to her by friends and family who knew of her talent for making things grow. Eleanora is survived by her husband, Billy, and her daughter, Christi Meyer, also of Houston. She is survived by her beloved cousins, Erma Luetge, Henry and Eunice Drews and Allyne Columbus. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. Eleanora will lie in state at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 and Thursday, July 11, 2013 until 2:00pm. Visitation with friends and family will be at Kinsmen Lutheran Church, 12100 Champion Forest Dr., Houston, TX 77066, on Thursday, July 11, 2013 beginning at 4:00 pm. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 7:00 pm at Kinsmen Lutheran Church in Houston with Pastor Mark England officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 10:00am. Eleanora was provided comfort and care by Grace Care Center Northpointe of Tomball, Texas and Odyssey Hospice of Houston, Texas. A special thanks from the family to Dr. Sam Rolon for all the excellent attention and care provided by him to their beloved wife and mother. Funeral services are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham. To post a tribute to the family, visit: www.memorialoakschapel.com.
