Elfon Charles Hinze, 83, of Burton, died April 29, 2005, at his residence. Mr. Hinze was born March 7, 1922, in Burton, Texas, to Charlie and Johanna Wetzel Hinze. He was baptized June 4, 1922, in Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carmine and was confirmed on Palm Sunday, 1937, in the same church. He attended Boundary School. Mr. Hinze served as an airplane and engine mechanic during World War II, from Oct. 30, 1942 to Feb. 12, 1946. On Oct. 23, 1949, he was married to L Dee Homeyer in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. Mr. Hinze was a retired employee of Maddox Furniture and was a farmer. After retirement, he enjoyed working part time for KL Farm Services and helping his grandchildren and friends with show animals. Mr. Hinze was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, where he served on the council. He was also a member of American Legion Post 242 in Burton, Burton VFD and La Bahia Turn Verein. Survivors include his wife, L Dee Hinze of Burton; son and daughter-in-law, Glenwood and Jane Hinze of Burton; 2 grandchildren, Brian Hinze and wife Kristi and Julie Hinze and fiancé Wade Tiemann; 2 great-grandchildren, Weston and Waylon Hinze; sister-in-law, LeVerne Hinze of Burton; niece, Nancy Eilers and husband Wade of Carmine and nephew, Robert Hinze and wife Joyce of Serbin; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Johanna Hinze; his brother, Roger Hinze; and his grandparents. The funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1 in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg with Pastor John Kueker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30 in Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Ladewig, Robert Hinze, Wilbert Meier, Olin Ashorn, Darrell Kieke, Wade Eilers, Adam Spies and Charles Hodde. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Schulte, Ricky Kieke, Bobby Bredthauer, Glenwood Prenzler, Ron Bozarth, Jim Limmer, John Ragsdale, Marcus Broesche, Tim Eberhardt and Al Duane Kunkel. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
