ElGene Henry Schulle, 81, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2020 surrounded by his loving family and wonderful caretakers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Monday February 10th at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Phil Geleske officiating. Burial will take place later that afternoon at the Carmine Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Sunday February 9th.
ElGene was born to Herman and Paula Drawe Schulle on July 1, 1938 in LaGrange Texas and grew up in Warrenton, Texas. He was baptized on October 9, 1938 by Pastor J. Bosshard in the Haw Creek Community. He confirmed his faith on May 9, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Warrenton by Pastor W. E. Doerr.
In 1957, ElGene married the love of his life Jean Arlys Noak on December 1, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine, Texas with Pastor Hannemann officiating. They were blessed with two wonderful children.
He served his country faithfully as a member of the Texas National Guard – Company B. He enjoyed attending their reunions each year to relive memories and rekindle friendships.
ElGene truly loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved hunting, fishing and unbeknownst to many – reading Western novels. He loved his family beyond measure and his grandkids were his pride and joy.
Softball and baseball were two of his lifelong passions. He passed that on by coaching Little League for many years. He was an umpire for high school and junior college baseball and slow pitch games in this area. He also coached the state champion men’s slow pitch team – MidWest Steel.
ElGene was always kind and would help anyone in need. He started his career as a banker at Farmer’s National Bank in Brenham. In the mid 60’s he went to work at Wehman’s Texaco. He eventually purchased the business from Mr. Wehman and started his legacy as the Texaco man. He would help anyone who was having a car issue! Your car would always come back fixed and cleaner than it was when you dropped it off. In 1990, he began working for LaRoche Pontiac as the service manager. He worked there until his retirement.
One of his other passions was cooking – especially for groups. He would make stew for church and was the camp cook for his hunting buddies at Schulte’s Shanty as well as for hunting groups down south at Rancho Venado Grande. He was blessed with numerous friends that he cherished until the end.
Mr. Schulle is survived by his loving wife Jean Arlys, his daughters and sons-in-law Lori and Lorne Eben and Julie and Rick Guiberteau, his grandchildren Laura Eben and her special friend Mike Rangel, Lance Eben and Sara Guiberteau, sister Willa Mae Musgrove, brother in law Cordell Levien, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Herman and Paula Schulle, his brother Herman Schulle Jr., his sister and brother in law Corine (Levien) and Travis Etzel, and his brother in law Carl Musgrove.
The Schulle family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Brenham Rehabilitation and Nursing Home and the staff at Hospice of Brazos Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or the charity of your choice.
