Elizabeth Deavers, a spirited woman of grace, beauty and southern fortitude, joined the angels who watch over us on March 4th, 2011. Elizabeth was born December 20th, 1921 in New Orleans to Minerva and James Stockton Jr. Much to her family''s joy, she moved to Brenham in 2005 from Austin. Always taking a "glass is half full perspective" Elizabeth touched and inspired others with her positive outlook on life. She was nurturing, hardworking, and proudly independent. After 40 years of dedicated civil service, she retired from the U.S. Department of Interior in 1992 shortly after her 70th birthday! She was also a steward of education and true Aggie Mom – ensuring that both her sons proudly graduated from Texas A & M University. She enjoyed planting and tending to garden flowers, took great joy in the whimsical antics of her cats, delighted in the lives of her children and grandchildren. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler. Upon retirement, she continued her life of service volunteering with Caregiver''s of Austin to drive the elderly and disabled to their doctor''s appointments. She was also active in her neighborhood associations and retiree group. Elizabeth, a deeply loved Mom and Grandma, is survived by her sons David Hopkins of Dallas, and Mike Hopkins and his wife Nina of Brenham, and their children, Mike Hopkins Jr. and his wife Liz of Brenham, and Holly McManus and her husband Ken of Galveston. She is also survived by her long-time feline companions, Tiger and Junior, as well as by her special friend Mary, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends of many, many years. We will all miss the courageous woman, who was a wonderful story teller and welcomed all with a smile on her face. The Hopkins Family also wishes to extend a depth of gratitude to the Caregivers of AMA Home Care, Inc. for the compassionate, loving care given to Elizabeth. In honor of Elizabeth''s life, Memorial Gifts may be made to: Brenham Independent School District Education Foundation, c/o Jean Shoup, President, 2211 S. Day Street, #330, Brenham, Texas 77833 or Texas A & M Foundation, c/o Dr. E. J. Davis, President, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, Texas, with a gravesite service at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas the afternoon of Wednesday, March 9th 2011.
