Ella Marie (Durden) Clayton, age 96, of Bedias, TX, widow of Wilmer (Bill) Clayton, died April 13, 2022 in Bryan, TX.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2022 at Memorial Oaks Chapel prior to the funeral service.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2022 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Rev. Nathan Holk, officiant. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Mrs. Clayton was born on July 12, 1925 to Byron Dewitt and Mary Lizzie Jones Durden in Brenham, TX. She was baptized on October 19, 1941 by Rev. George Sr. Cooks at First Baptist Church in Brenham. On April 27, 1946 she married Wilmer (Bill) Clayton in Hempstead, TX by Rev. Roy L. Blackman. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Riverside, TX. Mrs. Clayton and daughter Shirley accompanied her husband who was in the United States Air Force to Germany while serving his country. Ella started a Sunday School for the American Service Member’s children in Haunstetten, Germany in 1955. She worked with the Girl Scouts in Germany from 1955 to 1958. She started the Brownie Troup 267 and was the leader of the group in Haunstetten and Kaufbeuren, Germany. After returning to the States, she worked in the military family services for the 310th Bomb Group at Schilling Air Force Base in Salina, KS.
Mrs. Clayton is survived by her daughter, Shirley Jean Clayton of Magnolia, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Clayton is preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer W. Clayton, parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George Clayton and Lola Snow; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Helmus Schwettmann, Kathryn and Leslie Clayton, and Edwina and Lloyd Thomas.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Clayton Peters, Steve Sodich, Dr. Edgar Wells, Armando Garcia, Nickie Thomas, and Roland Wittner.
Memorials may be directed to any animal rescue charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
