Ellen Sommerlatte

Ellen Jane Sommerlatte, 48, beloved wife, sister, daughter and mother, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at her Houston residence. Mrs. Sommerlatte was born Dec. 5, 1955, in Cameron, TX, to Edward and Elsie June Fredricksen Longhofer. She was a 1978 graduate of Texas Women s University. She was employed by H.C.A. since 1991 and was one of the first employees hired to open Texas Orthopedic Hospital. Survivors include her husband, John Sommerlatte of Houston; son, Matt Sommerlatte of Houston; parents, Edward and Elsie Longhofer of Brenham; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eddie Jr. and Mary Longhofer and John and Cyndi Longhofer, all of Brenham; sister and brother-in-law, June and Joe Gerson of Mansfield; mother-in-law, Isabella Sommerlatte of Brenham; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Frances and Del Merkel of New Ulm and Pauline and Jim Zwernemann of Bastrop; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham with Royce Scott officiating. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
