Ellis Emma Fuchs Wickel, 88, of Burton, died on the morning of Tuesday, May 17, 2005 in Trinity Medical Center-Brenham. Born on April 16, 1917 in the La Bahia Prairie Community of Washington County, Texas, Ellis was a daughter of Ewald J. & Ida Neutzler Fuchs. She was baptized in Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine on July 15, 1917 by Rev. L. Hoefer. On Palm Sunday, 1931, Ellis confirmed her faith in the same church. On January 1, 1939, Ellis was married to Kirby Wickel in her parents home at La Bahia Prairie. Mrs. Wickel worked alongside her husband, farming and ranching. An avid gardener, Ellis enjoyed cooking, canning, baking, and sewing, as well as organizing card and domino games in her home. Mrs. Wickel was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine where she was active in the choir and Women of the Church. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers, Canasta Club and Froehliche Gesangverein. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Milton Everette & Carolyn Wickel of Burton; her daughters and sons-in-law: Betty Nell & Floyd Cooley of Blanco, Texas and Carolyn Ruth & Ralf Thiemer of Burton. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, along with a sister, Ida May Kieke of Brenham and a sister-in-law, Doris Eckert of Burton. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Grover & Lydia Fuchs and by a sister and brother-in-law, Vesta & Robert Garland and a brother-in-law, Larey Kieke. Mrs. Wickel will lie in state in Foehner Funeral Home in Burton, Texas beginning Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive callers in Foehner Funeral Home on Thursday evening, May 19 between 6 o clock and 8 o clock. The funeral service will be held in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine on Friday, May 20, 2005 at 2:00 o clock with Pastor Pam Werrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Wickel s grandsons, Michael and David Cooley, Gary Wickel and Chris, Kurt & Kevin Thiemer, will serve as pallbearers. The family will consider Mark Batey, Tim Layman, Dan Philipp and Pat Daniels as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be given to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home; 13560 W. Washington Street, Burton, Texas.
