Elmer L. Neutzler, 88, died May 15, 2017 in Brenham.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, with Pastor Kyle Merkle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Elmer Neutzler was born March 24, 1929 in Greenvine to O. J. and Hedwig Krause Neutzler, and was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, having been stationed in Germany. On August 7, 1955, he married Lillie Pape at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, where he remained a faithful member until his death.
Mr. Neutzler is the second youngest and last survivor of his ten siblings. He was an avid gardener, as well as a devoted Astro fan. He was fondly known as “Coach” at the Green Door, and PaPa by everyone at K&M Grocery. Elmer was a 60 year member of the American Legion, and was also active in the VFW. He was also a devoted member of the La Bahia Turnverein. He was employed as a truck driver by Brenham Wholesale Grocery for over 35 years.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Lloyd and Sharon Neutzler, and Ronnie and Glenda Neutzler, all of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jimmie Dreyer of Brenham; grandchildren: Rachel and Michael Moreno, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding Mr. Neutzler in death were his parents; wife, Lillie Neutzler, who passed away November 8, 2007; daughter, Carol Ann; six brothers, three sisters, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are nieces and nephews, Jerry Vaughn, all the Greenvine Saturday Skat players, Shirley Schulz, and Stevie Denton.
Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran of Prairie Hill, or to Hospice Brazos Valley. The family would like to express their appreciation to Brenham Nursing and Rehab , Argent Court, and Dr. William Loesch.
