Elsie Johanna Pankonien Lorenz, 93, of Brenham, died Jan. 13, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mrs. Lorenz, a resident at Argent Court, was born Sept. 3, 1911, in the Gay Hill community of Washington County, Texas, to Henry and Alvina Gajeske Pankonien. She was baptized Sept. 6, 1911, in the home of her parents by Pastor A.H. Falkenberg and was confirmed Sept. 6, 1925, in St. Peter s Lutheran Church in Gay Hill by Pastor A.W. Weber. Mrs. Lorenz attended Gay Hill School. On Dec. 4, 1932, she was married to Ervin Lorenz in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham by Pastor Arthur Hartman. She was a member of St. Peter s Lutheran Church in Gay Hill, where she was a member of Women of the ELCA Unit II, Altar Guild, Bible study, Senior Citizens group, quilting group and Sunday school. Mrs. Lorenz was a member of Sons of Hermann Lodge #193 and the Gay Hill, Mound Hill, Cedar Hill Volunteer Fire Department. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Milton and Faye Lorenz of Brenham; daughters and sons-in-law, Delores Knipstein of Houston, Doris and Newton Williams of Houston and Walline and James Grimm of Round Rock; grandchildren, Darrell and Jerri Knipstein, Janet and Arthur Daniel, Ronald and Ranell Knipstein, Eunice and James Schulz, Beatrice and Johnnie Kmiec, Dick and Trinka Martin, Scott and Angela Willams, Jason and Shelly Grimm, Glen and Tribbie Sandner; great-grandchildren, Patrick Koronka, Kate and Kevin Quinn, Sabrina and L.T. Harden, Heather Knipstein, Zane Schulz, Justin and Travis Kmiec, Kyle Martin, Rachelle, Ronnie and Ryan Knipstein, and Taylor, Logan and Kaylie Grimm and Gracen Williams; great-great-grandchildren, Shania and Alec Harden, and Kavin Koronka-Quinn; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin Lorenz; two brothers; son-in-law, Willie Knipstein, Jr.; grandson-in-law, James Koronka; great-great-grandson, Lance Koronka-Quinn. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005 in St. Peter s Lutheran Church in Gay Hill with Pastor Virgil Pecht officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Her grandchildren and their spouses will serve as pallbearers. Her great-grandchildren will be considered honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be given to St. Peter s Lutheran Church in Gay Hill.
