Elton Tonn

Elton E. Tonn, 96, of Brenham, died Aug. 29, 2003, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Tonn was born Sept. 29, 1906, in the Greenvine community of Washington County, TX, to Edward and Anna Pflughaupt Tonn. He was baptized Nov. 6, 1906 in Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church in Berlin and was confirmed in the same church. On Sept. 10, 1929, he married Irene Stark in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. Mr. Tonn was the owner and operator of a service station and store. He was a member of Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church in Berlin and was a charter member of the Washington County Republican Party. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Elsworth and Mildred Tonn of Houston; daughter, Doris Priscilla Bechdolt of Grapevine; grandchildren, Kelton and Kelli Tonn of Houston, Melissa Tonn and Bill Minick of Dallas, Reginald Bechdolt of Dallas/Fort Worth area and Stephanie Bechdolt of Nashville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Andrew Wilhelm Minick and Sophie Alexandra Minick, both of Dallas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene in November, 1983; brother, Hervey Tonn; sisters, Gladys Tonn and Nelda Reichle. The funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31 in Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church in Berlin with Pastor Teresa Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Reginald Bechdolt, Kelton Tonn, Robert Eldridge, Wayne Hanath, Alvin Hanath, Lance Lohman and Harry Lee Stark. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Buck, Gene Draehn, Andrew Minick, Dan Borchardt, Kirk Hanath, James Hanath, Walter Loesch and everyone at Westside Grocery and Santa Fe Café. At the family s request, memorials may be given to Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church in Berlin. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
