Elvera Hannah Tuty Neutzler Schmidt, 85, of Burton, died May 3, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mrs. Schmidt was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Greenvine, Texas, to Otto and Hedwig Krause Neutzler. She was baptized July 4, 1920 by Pastor L. Hoefer in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine and was confirmed March 25, 1934 by Pastor Carl Ziehe. Mrs. Schmidt was educated at Boundary School. On Oct. 13, 1940, she was married to Lawrence Arthur Schmidt in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine by Pastor Ziehe. Mrs. Schmidt was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished seamstress who especially enjoyed sewing for her family. Mrs. Schmidt was a life-long member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine, where she was the Sunday school treasurer for more than 25 years and was a member of the Women of the ELCA. She was also a member of the Burton American Legion Auxiliary, the Burton Sons of Hermann, Mary Martha Sewing Circle and was secretary for La Bahia Cemetery Association for many years. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Delbert and Peggy Schmidt and Roy and Carol Schmidt, all of Burton; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Fred Rau of Brenham; six grandchildren, Keith and Renee Schmidt of Pflugerville, Kim and John Knode of Burton, Carrie and Courtney Schmidt of Burton, Stacy and Trey Hardy of Brenham and Dane and Melonie Rau of Brenham; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Renee Knode, Tanner Eric Knode, Jenna Reese Hardy and Kade Alan Rau; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Elmer and Lillie Neutzler, Oran Neutzler and Wilburn Neutzler; sister-in-law, Erna Mae Neutzler; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Hedwig Neutzler; her husband, Lawrence Schmidt, on March 3, 2003; three sisters; and four brothers. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine with Pastor Pamela Werrell officiating. Burial will be in the La Bahia Cemetery near Burton. The family will receive visitors at Foehner Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 4. Pallbearers will be Keith Schmidt, John Knode, Trey Hardy, Dane Rau, Glen Neutzler, Ronnie Neutzler, Nelson Neutzler and Curtis Wendler. Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine or the La Bahia Cemetery Association. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
