Elvera Weiser

October 31, 1920 — December 8, 2012

Elvera Rudloff Nelson Weiser, 92, passed away December 8, 2012, in Ganado, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday December, 12, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby with Pastor Linda Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in Shelby Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. Elvera was born October 31, 1920 in Haw Creek to Harry and Otilla Stork Rudloff. She was baptized February 13, 1921 at Haw Creek Church and confirmed there Sept. 9, 1934. On October 22, 1942, she married Claud Nelson in Houston. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1977. While living in Houston, Elvera was in charge of setting up the first cafeteria at Lutheran High School. She also embroidered and designed baby blankets for Three Weavers in Houston, which were sold at Neiman Marcus stores. Elvera married Alton Weiser on January 28, 1984 in Shelby, and they made their home in the Shelby area for many years. A kind, generous, and outgoing person, Elvera was a friend to many, as well as being very active serving her community. She was a member of the Women of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby, the Sons of Herman, German Heritage Society, German Singers of Winedale, and Central Texas Sounds Fan Club. She also served as past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion of Shelby. Family and friends were always welcome in her home, where they were served delicious meals, with scrumptious pies for dessert. Children never left her home without a homemade treat, and no guest ever left her home hungry. A talented seamstress, she sewed wedding dresses for her nieces, prom dresses for her daughter and granddaughter, and beautiful quilts for various family members. She spent many hours in her yard, lovingly tending flowerbeds, and canning jellies, jams and vegetables from her huge garden. She always said: "Fresh is much better than store bought." Attending area dances and stopping by the Welcome Store were favorite pastimes, as well as trips to Coushatte. She traveled to Germany several times to visit her close friends there. Elvera hosted several members of the Musikkappele Markt Erkheim band from Germany for their trips to Texas over a 25 year period. The band came to Texas to play for her 80th and 90th birthday parties. Survivors include her husband, Al Weiser; daughter, Gloria Hahn; granddaughter Rebecca Gutierrez and husband Mark; great-grandson, Corbin Gutierrez; sister, Pearl Torrence; sister-in-law Corrine Rudloff; step-son Mickey Weiser, step-daughter, Judy Kingston, step-daughter-in-law Ladonna Weiser, and 11 step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Claud Nelson, parents Harry and Otilla Stork Rudloff; brothers Marvin and Kermit Rudloff, sisters Lydia Ehrigson and Idella Weber; son-in-law Kenneth Hahn and stepson, Billy Bob Weiser. Serving as pallbearers are Mark Gutierrez, Terry Rudloff, Warren Meischen, Delfred Gaskamp, Sammy Hale, and Don Steinbach. Corbin Gutierrez will be an honorary pallbearer. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby.
