Elwood David (Popo) Dannhaus, 86, of Brenham, died August 3, 2024, in Brenham.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday August 9, 2024 at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem, with Pastor Richard Brunk officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Elwood was born September 23, 1937, in New Wehdem, TX, to John and Elsie Emshoff Dannhaus. He was baptized October 31, 1937, in St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem and was confirmed April 6, 1952, in the same church. He served in the United States Army in Active Duty in 1959 and continued in the Army Reserve from 1959 - 1967.
On February 23, 1968, he married the love of his life Margaret Evyonne in St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem. Elwood was a life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem serving on many boards. He was considered the "Keeper of the Church." He retired from Brenham Wholesale and later volunteered as a Bread Partner. He was a life-long member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his children: Paula and Ron Baade, Larry and Deborah Clepper, Melissa and Mark Moehlmann; grandchildren: Chris and Kara Baade, Bo Baade, Jessica and Eric Thayne, Jennifer and Katherine Stephenson, Michael Lawhon, Dillon Bilski, Tina Bilski, Amanda and Cody Harrison, Chanda and Corey Boling, Sara Beth and Jason Gaertner, and Hanna and Andrew Hahn; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John Jr. and Billy Ray and wife Evyonne.
Pallbearers are Chris Baade, Bo Baade, Eric Thayne, Jason Gaertner, Andrew Hahn and Mike Brau.
The family would like to thank his friends at Tootsie's for drinking a few cold ones, keeping him company and sending him home with lots of goodies.
