Erette Vinson went home to God on August 6, 2014. She was born October 14, 1927, the daughter of Emmett L. and Lillian Vinson. Erette was educated in Brenham schools, an honor graduate of Central Elementary and Brenham High School, Class of 1945. She graduated from Blinn Jr. College and attended the University of Texas, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa. Erette made her home in Houston from 1954 until her death, and was a member of the Baptist faith. Erette was an accountant with an insurance company until she retired in 1979. She enjoyed music, composing, playing the organ, writing poetry, and reading. She was very much concerned with protection of animals and the environment. Erette was a supporter of the Houston SPCA and other animal rights organizations. She was always very proud and grateful to be a Texan, a Southerner, and Irish. Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Alice B. Schmidt and William and Susannah Vinson, her parents, and brothers Clifford and David Clark. She had no living close family members. She is survived by two very special and dear friends, whom she regarded as sisters: Ruth W. Thomas and Betty G. Lueckemeyer. Two friends and caregivers who were dear to Erette are Annabell Veit and Lenn O''Connor. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
