Ernest W. Harms, 90, of Brenham, died August 12, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Harms was born April 18, 1916, in New Wehdem, Texas, one of seven children born to William Harms and Anna Giese Harms. He was baptized April 18, 1916, at New Wehdem, Texas and was confirmed in 1930, also at New Wehdem. Mr. Harms attended Austin County schools in New Wehdem. He served in the East during World War II and was presented a Purple Heart. Upon his return from military service, he began work at LCRA Bluebonnet Electric Coop, where he worked until his retirement. On Nov. 2, 1947, he was married to Gertrude Meyer at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill. She preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 1990. On Nov. 20, 1993, he was married to Fayma Thigpen Wilson in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. They made their home in Brenham. Survivors include his wife, Fayma Harms of Brenham; two sisters, Elsa Becker and Minnie Schwettmann, both of Brenham; and two stepdaughters, Donna Kaye Best of Kansas and Lori Lynn Hadsell of Houston. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Lillie Schroeder, Edna Krueger, Selma Vogelpohl and Benita Kammerer. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15 at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Jerry Vaughn, James Walner, Alfonso Cardenas, Lynn Pieper, Billy Haas and Wilbert Rogas. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials be made to St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham or Hospice Brazos Valley. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
