Ernest Robert Hoppens Jr. entered this world on June 11,1943 in Houston Tx to the delight of Ernest & Stella Hoppens.
He was always a hard worker. From his years at Mr. Wilson's Service Station, to driving a beer truck from Hamm's Beer & working in the brewery at Jax Beer.
He found his true passion when he went to work at Southern Display in the late 60's, where he worked for almost 30 years.
In 1993, he realized a dream of owning his own business when he formed Lone Star Exhibits. Which, he built into a very successful business, until he retired in 2008.
He had many passions in life. They included his family, friends, antique cars, horses, cattle, Stampede Riders and volunteering his time for great causes such as The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
His love for traveling was Big. He & Sharon took many road trips with his Sweet Aunt Erna. Going to Car Auctions with buddies & traveling to other Countries. He enjoyed these things so much. Robert enjoyed going to County Fair Auctions too. Always buying animals to help the youth & buying welding projects from the Ag students.
One thing he really loved & adored were his granddaughters & watching them play "baseball" as he called it. He always said he was so proud of his girls. They were his pride & joy!
Robert also had To Do Lists. He would work all day to get things marked off his list, even if it meant him being late to wherever he may be going. So he was late quite a bit...Always trying to get one last thing marked off that list.
He had quite a few ranch hands throughout the years and he taught every one of them things that they will never forget. Life lessons, how to build something from the ground up, etc..It wasn't just work.
Robert & his buddies had an annual sausage stuffing (really just a reason to get together and drink some beer) He loved making sausage his way! Always enjoyed the times he spent with them.
The NFR was also something he truly enjoyed. He & Jason started going around 1989.
Had 27 great years at The NFR. Lots of great times were had and countless memories were made there.
Robert went to be with the Lord June 16, 2016 after a brief but courageous battle with Cancer.
He was a wonderful Father, Husband, Friend, Companion and Mentor to us all! He will be deeply missed.
We will see you later Hoss!

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Jason and Wendy Hoppens of Friendswood, and special friend and companion Sharon Richardson of Chappell Hill. Two grandchildren Stacie and Kaylee Hoppens, sister LaNell Stark of Renton Washington.

Serving as Pallbearers are: Jason Mushinski, Gregory Armstrong, Kyle Armstrong, Bryce Armstrong, Raymond Miller III and Billy Chisum.
