Ernst Gustav E. G. Althaus, 69, of Round Top, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Althaus was born July 5, 1937 in Winedale, Texas to Ernst Otto and Leola Hinze Althaus. He was baptized August 29, 1937 at Winedale Lutheran Church and confirmed April 6, 1952 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. Mr. Althaus attended Burton schools, Blinn College, and Sam Houston State University. On July 18, 1959, he married Nancy Finke Althaus in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was worked as a carpenter and was also engaged in the farming and ranching business. Mr. Althaus was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top. He loved playing cards, watching sports and bull riding, fishing and dove hunting. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, Leola Althaus of Burton; his wife, Nancy Althaus of Round Top; daughters and sons-in-law Carolyn and Mitchell Hall of Brenham; Diann and Rodney Goebel of Shelby, and Cindy and Bruce Kettler of Brenham; grandchildren: Russell Hall, Nicholette Hall and special friend, Shane Cappelletti; Reese Goebel, Haley Goebel and fiancé Andy Glueck; Ryan Kettler; Chelsea Kettler and special friend, JT Gaskamp; and Stephanie Kettler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: John and Ida Finke of Houston; Jimmy Finke of Round Top, and Jack and Margaret Finke of Round Top; sisters and brothers-in-law: Delores and Clyde Muske of Houston; Dorothy and Robert Marwitz of Holland, and Sharon and James Chapman of Burton. He is also survived by his special pet, Patches, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral service for E. G. Althaus will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 15 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top with Pastor John Nedbalek officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Cemetery near Round Top. Serving as pallbearers are Ryan Kettler, Russell Hall, Reese Goebel, Robert Bobby Wagner, Max Baranowski, Chester Gebhard, and Roger Sommerfeld. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hill Cemetery Association, or to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
