Erwin Henry Glaesmann, 86, of Brenham, died July 7, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Glaesmann was born March 13, 1918, in the Long Point community of Washington County, Texas, to Henry and Mary Herzog Glaesmann, He was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville. He was educated at Long Point School and Blinn College. Mr. Glaesmann enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 27, 1936. He served three years at Ft. Sam Houston and was then transferred to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, where he served until 1945. On Nov. 11, 1942, he married Amanda Klussmann in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in William Penn. Mr. Glaesmann was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. Survivors include his wife Amanda Glaesmann of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law: Gloria & Al Stoddard of Brenham; grandchildren: Ron & Rebecca Mertz of Brenham, Scott & Jennifer Mertz of Brenham, Dana & Corey Edge of Grapevine, Jason & Heidi Stoddard great grandchildren: Mason, Hailee, Collin, Tyson, Caleb, Zachary, and Hannah Mertz, Connor & Kate Edge,; sister, Rosa Lee Maass; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Annie Glaesmann, Alvin & Gene Klussmann, Natalie Glaesmann all of Brenham, Leona Cox of North Highland, CA, Emmie & Bob Colburn of Arlington, Ollie & Alvin Dannhaus of Ft. Worth, Evelyn & Delbert Muery of Gay Hill, Joyce & Bill Thomas of Boerne, and numerous nieces and nephews. Erwin is preceded by his parents, Mary & Henry Glaesmann, his son, Erwin Glaesmann, Jr., his grandson, Justin Mertz, his sister, Esther Quebe, and two brothers, Louis Glaesmann and Herbert Glaesmann. The funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2004 in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville with Rev. David Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Ron & Rebecca Mertz, Scott & Jennifer Mertz, Dana & Corey Edge, and Jason & Heidi Stoddard. At the families request, memorial may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or to Brazos Valley Hospice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main.
