Esther Adele Koerth Kunkel, 94, died on January 3, 2016. The daughter of Otto and Anna (Muehlbrad) Koerth, she was born October 4, 1921 in the LaBahia Community, Washington County, Texas. She was baptized on April 16, 1922 in Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine by Rev. Falkenberg and confirmed in the same church in April of 1936 by Rev. Burnotte.
She was united in marriage to Felix Kunkel on December 2, 1945 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church by Rev. Leo Simon. Felix preceded her in death on February 11, 1998. They had one son, Daniel, who preceded her in death on May 14, 2008.
Esther worked as a seamstress and applied her talents to many Maifest costumes. She was a member of St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton since 1946 and served many years as a Sunday School teacher. Esther was also a member of St. John''s Circle 2 and the Mary Martha Sewing Circle where she enjoyed the quilting group very much. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 242 serving 3 terms as President, a member of Sons of Hermann-Burton and a member of the Texas Farm Bureau. She fervently enjoyed playing dominoes with area groups.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Linda and Kenneth Dreyer, Sandra and Mike Sommerlatte and Gary and Dietra Koerth all of Brenham; 12 great nieces and nephews; 10 great-great nieces and nephews; honorary daughter and son, Beverly and Carl Houston of Burton; honorary granddaughter and grandson, Vicki and Lorenz Tiedt of Brenham; and great-grandsons, Everett and Edison Tiedt.
Serving as pallbearers are Scot Sommerlatte, Stephen Draehn, Brandon Marth, Wyatt Matthies, Gary Koerth and Lorenz Tiedt. Honorary pallbearers are members of Mary Martha Sewing Circle, Circle 2, Floyd Tonn, Mickie and Tom Angerame, Sally and Larry Dunford and Kathy and Blake Emmett.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton. Visitation with the family is 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Memorials may be given to St. John''s United Church of Christ or a charity of choice.
