Ethel Mingus

Ethel Maude Phillips Mingus, 83, of Brenham, TX, died July 2, 2003, in Trinity Care Center in Brenham. Ms. Mingus was born March 6, 1920, in Pine Island, TX, to Thornton Sylvanis and Lucy Ann Milam Phillips. She was baptized in Pine Island Baptist Church. She was a 1940 graduate of Waller High School and a 1944 graduate of Lilly Jolly Memorial School of Nursing. Ms. Mingus was a retired registered nurse and homemaker. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn M. Kenjura of Brenham; grandson, Darreck Mark Kenjura of Brenham; sisters, Blanche Urquhart and Alta O. Phillips, both of Pine Island; and special friends, Ronnie and Clara Gibson family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Mitchell Mikie Mingus Jr.; four brothers; and three sisters. A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. The graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 4 in Shiloh Cemetery in Waller County. Pallbearers will be Ray Brumlow, Freddie Brumlow, Neil Edward Phillips, Ralph Phillips and Pete Licce. Memorials may be given to Brenham State School Endowment Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
