Etta Schulz Waag of Brenham and a former Houston resident, died at the age of 90. She was born in Nelsonville, Texas, to Alfred and Frieda Glaeser Schulz. She married Charles Leslie Waag of Houston on Sept. 23, 1939. Her husband of 26 years preceded her in death in 1965. Mrs. Waag was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Houston from 1940 through 1998 and Faith Lutheran Church in Bellaire from 1998 through 2003. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome since 2003. She was also very active in community services including the PTA and Scouting. Mrs. Waag worked as an Avon saleslady since May 1958 and recently received recognition for her 45 years of service. Personal interests included family history, gardening and travel. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Rosemary Waag of Port Angeles, Washington; two grandchildren, Jennifer Waag and Sean Waag; two brothers, Alvin Schulz of Brenham and Leslie Schulz of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a sister, Laverne Kalbow of La Grange. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother-in-law and a niece. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Friday, Dec. 3 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 in Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome with Pastor Jason Korthauer officiating. A graveside service will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston. Prior to the funeral service, the family will be gathering for lunch at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church fellowship hall. Pallbearers will be Allen Schubert, Kenneth Roesle, Donald W. Lampe, Alvin Schulz Jr., Douglas Borchardt, Randy Krause and Gregg Schubert. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome, 13636 FM 109, Brenham, TX 77833. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
