Chief Master Sergeant USAF retired, Eugene Edward Menking, Jr., 102, of Brenham, Texas passed away on October 25, 2024, in Brenham.
Eugene was born in Schulenburg, Texas on October 23, 1922 to Dora Mueller Menking and Eugene Edward Menking. He attended school through the 8th grade and joined the United States Air Force at age 18. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 28 years, serving his country during WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. He obtained his high school diploma in 1958.
On January 20, 1946, Eugene was united in marriage with Ruth Louise Fricke.
As a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top, Eugene served as an usher for many years. He was an expert mechanic who loved to work on cars. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was a member of the VFW in Brenham and the American Legion in Round Top. He also was a member of the Round Top Rifle Association, serving as their Chief BBQ Sauce Maker.
Eugene was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Menking; his parents; three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Fricke Menking; son & daughter-in-law, Robert & Cathy Menking; grandchildren, Michael & Michelle Menking and Christine & Matthew Bates; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Private graveside services for Eugene Edward Menking, Jr. will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Florida Chapel Cemetery in Round Top with Pastor John David Nedbalek officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5pm-7pm Friday, November 1 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
