Eugene Thielemann

Eugene Thielemann, 87, of Brenham, died Jan. 29, 2018, in Brenham.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

The funeral for Eugene Thielemann will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, with Pastor Skip Stutts officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thielemann was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Mound Hill community, Washington County, TX, to Ed and Ida (Pankonien) Thielemann. He was baptized Oct. 26, 1930 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill and was confirmed March 25, 1945 in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.

On June 6, 1954, he was married to Mae Dell Scheffer in St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill. His family was important to him, especially his granddaughters. Mr. Thielemann was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, where he served on the church council and started the Men In Mission. He served as president of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod for four years. He was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in LaMarque, where he served a number of terms as president of the council.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and was a member of the Buddy Wright American Legion Post # 48. Mr. Thielemann loved playing dominoes and pitch, played country baseball with the Mound Hill Hillers, played softball in Galveston, and was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially salt water fishing. He also loved dancing.

Mr. Thielemann retired from American National Insurance Co., serving as vice-president, having been employed there for 43 years.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mae Dell Thielemann of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Connie (Bauer) Thielemann of Giddings and Duane and Jeannie (Reeves) Thielemann of Santa Fe; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mike Akins of Pace, FL; brother, Leroy Thielemann of Brenham; grandchildren, Nicole Paul and husband Chris, Natalie Thielemann, Jenna Akins, Riley Akins, Faith Thielemann, Jessica Thielemann and Samantha Thielemann.; brother-in-law, Edward Scheffer and sister-in-law, Eleanor Tielke.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles and Hennie (Buerger) Scheffer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Gladys Scheffer, Alvin and Minnie Scurlock, Carrie Scheffer and Raymond Tielke.

Pallbearers will be Billy Scheffer, Charles Scheffer, Rayburn Klussmann, Larry Gaskamp, Glenwood Prenzler, and Newton Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters.
