Eugene Vavrecka Sr.

Eugene Joe Vavrecka Sr., 81, formerly of Brenham, died February 20, 2010 at Oakland Manor in Giddings. He was the widower of Bertha M. Stoppelberg Vavrecka. Eugene was born in Palcios Texas to Joe Vavrecka and Marcella Faktor Vavercka. He was in the Navy for 10 years and he retired form the American Bakers Association. He loved to garden and in his younger days he liked to fish. He loved being around his family telling stories about when he was young. He loved to watch TV especially Walker Texas Ranger. Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law Norma J. Contreras and Roland B. Contreras of Burton, and Pauline B. Hodge of Houston, brothers Joe Lee Vavrecka of El Campo Tx., sisters Ella Mae Bobbie Wood of Duson, La. and Dorothy Kruchlak of El Campo, Tx.; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Bertha Sis, a son Eugene Joe Gene Jr. and a brother Roy Lee Vavrecka. Grave side service will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the White Union Cemetery, with Reverend Steve Cox officiating. Burial will be in the White Union Cemetery. Visitation with the family and friends will be Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
