Eugene “Gene” Johnson, age 81, passed away peacefully at his Brenham home on July 30, 2022.
Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 am and the funeral service will start at 11:00 am on Sunday, August 7, at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Following the services, Gene will be cremated and his ashes scattered in accordance with his wishes.
Gene was born on May 4, 1941 in Kellogg, Idaho, to parents Lloyd Vern Johnson and Essie Maxine (Richardson) Johnson. He grew up mostly in Lynnwood, Washington. After graduating high school, Gene joined the US Army. He served for a few years, mainly in Ft. Carson, Colorado.
After finishing his stint in the Army, Gene and his family returned to Washington. Gene had a machine shop and provided for his family by doing machinist jobs and other work. He also made and sold custom wood stoves. While living in Washington, he met and eventually married Veronica Marie Yorek.
Gene was a wonderful husband, father, step-father, and grandfather. He was a quiet man but a very hard worker. In their retirement, Gene and Marie moved to her hometown of Brenham. Gene loved the warmer weather and enjoyed keeping a garden and growing vegetables. He enjoyed time with his family and also his beloved dog companion, Tippy. Gene was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. He was a member St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Brenham. Gene was very generous and was always there to help family and friends who needed him.
Gene is survived by: his wife and best friend, Marie; sons Todd and Glen; step children, and grandchildren; brothers Boyd and Allen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan McBryde, James McBryde, Todd Johnson, Glen Johnson, Paul Johnson, and Boyd Johnson.
