Evelyn Faist

Evelyn Dorothy Faist, 95, of Welcome, died June 24, 2008, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mrs. Faist was born Dec. 24, 1912, in Reading, England, to George James Hill and Lucy Leaver Hill. She went to private school in Oxford Road School, Twiford School and Wokingham School. On May 16, 1945, she was married to Clemons S. Faist at St. Peter''s Church in Caversham, England. She was baptized in the Christian faith in the Church of England. Mrs. Faist was a member of Welcome Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years, taught vacation Bible school, and was a member of the Naomi Circle and Women of the ELCA. She was also a member of West End Historical Society and served as a Scout den mother. Mrs. Faist and her husband were former owners of C.S. Faist Egg Company, Welcome Store and were engaged in ranching. Past jobs in England were modeling, ballroom dance instructor, working in a petroleum office during World War II and a tailor in the clothing industry. Mrs. Faist enjoyed dancing, music, traveling, teaching Sunday school and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Paul J. Faist of La Grange, Lynn and husband Leonard Wittneben of Welcome and Clemons F. Faist and wife Cathy of Welcome; grandchildren, Kerri and husband Michael Schovajsa of Welcome, Mark Wittneben of College Station, Brian Wittneben and wife Blair of Dallas, Julie and Jason Foskey of Orange, Jason Faist and wife Gina of Cedar Park, Becky and husband Don Friend of St. Peter, Minnesota, Andy Faist and wife Jennifer of Katy; great-grandchildren, Chad Schovajsa and Cory Schovajsa, both of Welcome, Stephen Friend of St. Peter, Minnesota, Kami Foskey and Kati Foskey, both of Orange and Dana Faist and Wade Faist, both of Cedar Park. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Clemons; daughter-in-law, Dottie Faist; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Betty Smith of England; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons: Mark Wittneben, Brian Wittneben, Jason Faist, Andy Faist, Mike Schovajsa, Chad Schovajsa and Cory Schovajsa and Wade Faist. Honorary pallbearer will be Jason Foskey. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 27 at Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome with Pastor David Klak officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome Building Fund.
