Evelyn Kamas was born July 31, 1925 in Welcome, Texas to parents, Frank and Mary (Surovik) Mikeska, the next to the youngest of eleven children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Nelsonville Brethren Church. She grew up in the Bleiblerville community and attended Victoria School.
She passed away on October 15, 2020 in Tampa, Florida where she had been living with her daughter and son in law for the past seven years.
She was married to Ladislav (Lad) S. Kamas on August 17, 1947 in Wesley, Texas with the Rev. Josef Barton officiating.
Evelyn and Lad lived in Texas City and were members at Memorial Lutheran Church. When they retired, they moved to Brenham. Evelyn was a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going dancing, gardening, cooking and baking, sewing, and doing crafts such as crocheting, making silk flowers and macrame.
She was a member of St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she enjoyed being a part of a women’s circle, making food for funerals, and visiting people in the nursing home. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary and the SPJST. While she was in Tampa, she attended Grace Lutheran Church with Nadine and Jeffrey.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her sisters, Frances Konecny, Olga Sisa, Lydia Stalmach, Albina Vavra, Milady Vajdak, Vlasta Bormann, Hermina Pomykal, Elenora Morris, Gladys Boelsche; and her brother Nelson Mikeska; Lad’s parents, Steve & Milady Kamas; Lad’s sister and brother: Vlasta Baldwin and Leroy Kamas.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nadine and Jeffrey Anderson; her grandchildren, Steve Anderson and John Anderson (Sumira); Lad’s brother and sister in law, Gene & Mary Lou Kamas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham or the Wesley Cemetery Fund.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Wesley Brethren Cemetery with Pastor Pat Dietrich officiating.
A visitation will be held from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with the family present from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
