Evelyn Heine Kochwelp, 91, a lifelong resident of Washington County, was called to her heavenly home on March 11, 2016.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, with Pastor Denise Seymour officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:30 Sunday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Evelyn Marie Kochwelp was born May 20, 1924 at her family home in the Rehburg community to William and Mattie Korthauer Heine. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg and was a faithful member of that church her entire life. She was educated at St. Paul School in Rehburg, as well as in the Burton public school system.
On November 9, 1947, she was married to Arthur (Dick) Kochwelp. They observed 65 years of marriage shortly before Mr. Kochwelp''s death on Dec. 26, 2012, and she became a resident at Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village shortly thereafter.
Evelyn worked at Montgomery Ward in Brenham for many years, and was also a teller at Washington County State Bank until her retirement in 1989. After retirement, she did alterations for Bode and Tonn Clothing Store in Brenham. Along with her husband, she was active in the VFW Post in Brenham.
Mom, Grandma, or Gigi, as she was known to her family, was a woman of great faith. She loved cooking for her family, and working in her flower beds. She was also an excellent seamstress.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters Jo Ann Brieden and Susie Seeber, both of Brenham; son, Doug Kochwelp of Tomball; grandchildren: Stephanie Seeber Day and husband Ted of Allen; Arty and Sarah Brieden of College Station; Jolene and Matt Hoffpauir of Spring; Kevin and Amy Seeber of Brenham, and Tyler and Kellen Kochwelp of Spring; great-grandchildren: Rex Day, Mason and Cass Seeber, T.J. McCubbin, Megan and Mason Hoffpauir, and Elizabeth, Evelyn, and Ann Margaret Brieden. She is also survived by one brother, Woodrow Heine, and a niece, Nina Kochwelp Pieper, as well as numerous cousins and other relatives.
In addition to her beloved husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Mattie Korthauer Heine; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gus and Alma Kochwelp; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Erwin and Irene Kochwelp, and a sister, Ora Nell Heine.
Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons: Kevin Seeber, Arty Brieden, Kellen Kochwelp, Tyler Kochwelp, Matt Hoffpauir, T.J. McCubbin, Ted Day and Ronnie Bothe. Honorary pallbearers are all cousins, all members of VFW Auxiliary Post #7104, all former employees of Washington County State Bank and Donald Becker.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg or Hospice Brazos Valley.
