Evelyn Marie Schmidt, 88, of Houston, died July 10, 2005, at her residence. Mrs. Schmidt was born July 17, 1916, in Verona, North Dakota, to Edwin and Anna Peterson Benson. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John s Lutheran Church in Verona. Mrs. Schmidt was a graduate of Verona High School and Valley City College. On June 15, 1945, she married Alvin William Schmidt in Grace Lutheran Church in San Diego, California. Mrs. Schmidt was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham and was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Alvin Schmidt of Houston; a son, Paul William Schmidt of Fort Lewis, Washington; two daughters, Karen Bohls and Patricia Smith, both of Houston; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Robert Ault of Jamestown, North Dakota; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sue Ellen Tompkins; a granddaughter, Kari Tompkins; a grandson, Nathan Bohls; two brothers, Darold Benson and Paul Benson; and two sisters, Marjorie Webb and Arlene Ridgely. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15 in Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Matthew Jacobs and Pastor William Holzer officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Matthew Bohls, Aaron Bohls, Andrew Tompkins, Paul Tompkins, Russell Tompkins and Howard Smith. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
