Evva Irene Lowery, 81, of Brenham, died Feb. 7, 2012, in Waco. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10 at Atkinson Cemetery in Chappell Hill. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Chappell Hill with Rev. David Beckworth officiating. Mrs. Lowery was born July 31, 1930 in Pecos, Texas, to Herbert L. and Lois O''Barr Smith and grew up on a ranch in Glasscock County. She was a graduate of Sul Ross State University. On Oct. 12, 1957, she married James Lowery in Big Spring. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Chappell Hill. Her family was important to her and she enjoyed housekeeping, bookkeeping and baking cookies for her grandchildren. There was always an extra plate at the table for whoever showed up. Mrs. Lowery enjoyed woodworking, designing and painting wooden crafts. She also loved the Bluebonnet Opry, playing solitaire and her dog Goldie. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Bill Sherland of San Antonio, Carol and David Sowers of Washington, Janet and Moe Dozier of Waco and Teresa and Keith Groen of Krum; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Barbara Lowery; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Lynita Lowery, and Derrol and Margaret Lowery, and brother-in-law, Brian Lowery, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Lowery; one brother, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, and one brother-in-law. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Chappell Hill or New Beginnings Life Ministries, 1016 E. Blue Bell Rd., Brenham, Texas 77833, or to any favorite charity.
