Ewald Grawunder, Jr., 95, passed away July 28, 2018 in Brenham.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, with Pastors Phil Fenton and Jim Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Ewald Grawunder, Jr. was born September 23, 1922 to Ewald H. Sr. and Bernita Remmert Grawunder in the Wonder Hill Community. He was baptized Nov. 26, 1922, by Pastor E. Meier at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg, and confirmed May 16, 1937 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg. He was educated at Wonder Hill School. Mr. Grawunder served his country 39 months and 25 days in the U.S. Army Air Force.
On June 20, 1948, he was married to Alice L. Bockhorn by Pastor Theo Strang at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. Mr. Grawunder was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation for 37 years and 11 months until retirement July 5, 1983. Hobbies included gardening, tending to fruit and nut trees, fishing, and enjoyed attending dance parties with many friends.
Mr. Grawunder was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham until his death and the American Legion Post #48 of Brenham. He was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rosenberg, where he served on council and various committees.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Linda Grawunder of Leander; grandchildren, Jeanna and Keith Hernandez, Lisa and Tony Huff, and Thomas and Stephanie Grawunder; great-grandchildren, Audrey and Luke Hernandez, Easton and Brady Huff and Taylor, Ansley, and Carter Grawunder; sister, Verlyn Smith; brothers-in-law William B. Hurbrough and Eddie Pollard and; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Larry Stark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ewald H. and Bernita Grawunder; wife, Alice Grawunder; infant son, David Charles Grawunder; a brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Erna Grawunder of Brenham; sisters, Allyne Pollard and Gladys Hurbrough, and a brother-in-law, Ivan Smith.
Serving as pallbearers are Thomas Grawunder, Keith Hernandez, Tony Huff, Jeff Stark, Jon Stark, and Dennis Gray. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Ray Loesch and Barney Loesch.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham.
