Ewald Benjamin Ising, husband of Bobbie Ising, passed away April 7, 2012 in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Virgil Pecht officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Brenham Honor Guard. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 until 8 p.m., Monday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Ewald Ising was born July 30, 1922 in Star, Texas in Hamilton Co. to Walter and Melita Sitz Ising. He was baptized October 29, 1922 in Shive, Texas. At the age of two, his family moved to rural Washington Co. in the Long Point – Gay Hill area. Educated in Washington Co. schools, he was confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Karl Moueller on March 21, 1937. During WWII, at the age of 20, he was called into the military. He proudly served his country for three years in the 372nd Army Engineers, European Theater. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he worked for General Geo. Co. in West Texas and New Mexico. In 1949, Ewald and Bobbie Marie Fick were married in Snook. This union was blessed with a daughter, Charlene Kay. They made their home in Brenham, where he worked for Ed Schroeder and Oscar Meyer Conoco Service Station. He later managed and became owner until 1975, when Conoco left the area. In 1975, Ewald worked for the City of Brenham as Park Superintendent until his retirement in 1989. After retiring, Ewald enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing card games and 42 with his friends. One of his greatest loves was being a Daddy and later a Grandpa to his grandchildren. An active member of Zion Lutheran Church, he was also a life member of the V.F.W. and Sons of Hermann. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Ising of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Charles Lee Hahn; grandson, Jeffery and Katherine Weirich; granddaughter, Megan Weirich; brother-in-law Ray West; sister-in-law Lena Mae Smart, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister and brother-in-law Flora and Raymond Winkelmann; sister, Emily West; parents-in-law, Charles and Myrtle Fick; brother-in-law and sister-in-law McNeil and Mary Fick, and brothers-in-law Casper Fick, Charles Fick, and Dr. Ray Smart. Serving as pallbearers are several of the high school students he employed at his service station. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren Jeff and Katherine Weirich, and Megan Weirich, and his godchildren: Debbie Reimer, Alan Winkelmann, and Donald Lee Fick.
