Felix Meyer, Jr.

August 13, 1943 — March 1, 2018

Felix Meyer Jr., husband of Patricia Tiemann Meyer, passed away at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston on Thursday, March 1, 2018, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

The funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, with Pastor Denise Seymour officiating. The family will be present at the church at 1 p.m. Sunday to greet relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, March 3 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel at 1306 W. Main in Brenham.

Felix was born August 13, 1943 in Burton, Texas to Felix Meyer, Sr. and Minnie Arndt Meyer. On September 12, 1943 Felix was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg and confirmed in Greenvine. He was a graduate of Burton High School and was so proud of a 99 yard touchdown he made on homecoming night. After meeting the love of his life and his best friend, Pat Meyer at Prairie Hill Dance Hall, they were married on December 20, 1964 in Grace Lutheran Church by Rev. Arnold Mueller, and enjoyed 53 years of marriage.

Felix worked for Jimmie Hahn, Inc. and learned about the concrete business under the leadership of Alma Hahn, whom he respected a great deal. In 1981, Felix and Rayburn Klussmann ventured into a partnership and created Brenham Ready Mix, Inc. in Brenham and Circle B Ready Mix in Prairie View. Felix deeply enjoyed going to work every single day. He enjoyed being with his co-workers and friends! After 33 years they sold the business to Ronnie Klott, who operates Lauren Concrete.

Felix was especially proud of his two daughters who both became Registered Nurses in the State of Texas and just found out a few days ago that his grandson was accepted into the nursing program at UTMB in Galveston. He absolutely lit up when he saw each of his grandsons. He was very involved in being a part of all their accomplishments and will continue to “watch down” over each of them. He was the best Father and “Papa” anyone could ask for and will be missed beyond what words could ever explain. His best little friend, Bitsy, will forever be in his heart along with his “grand puppies.” Felix was selfless, courageous and so much more!

Survivors include his wife, Pat Meyer of Brenham; daughters and sons-in-law Tina Ann Burkhead and husband David Wayne of Norway; Tara Marie Draehn and husband Keith Charles of Katy; grandchildren: Dylan McCade Draehn and Dawson Charles Draehn of Katy and their special friends, Ruth Ann King and Annabel Lucy Rothwell.

Special family members, Richard and Nina Osborne of Clear Lake; Doris, Kelly and Bill Bosse of Houston, and Glenn and Valentina Horstmann of Taylor, and Bernice Meyer of Needville; sister-in-law Joyce Meyer; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Barbara and Ron Pohlmeyer; nieces and nephews: Darrell Meyer, Cheryl Meyer Davis, Shelley Pohlmeyer Estes and Randall Beaman and Ronald Craig Pohlmeyer and wife Melissa; great nieces and nephews, Melissa Meyer, Laura Meyer Perkey and husband Matthew, Cody and Cara Davis, Tanner Estes and wife Laura, Makenzie Estes and Austin Shockey, Kennedy Ann, Kamryn Renee and Ross Craig Pohlmeyer; great-great-nieces and nephews, Braylon Laike and Lacie Mae Shockey and Michael Calvin Perkey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Minnie Meyer of Burton; mother-in-law and father-in-law Martin and Irene Tiemann of Brenham; brother, Calvin Meyer; cousins Edgar Lentz and Irvin Meyer, and his beloved “Taunta Anna” Glaesmann.

Serving as pallbearers are Darrell Meyer, Mark Meyer, Richard Osborne, Glenn Horstmann, Craig Pohlmeyer, Tanner Estes, Darrell Lentz and Randy Hilding.

Honorary pallbearers will be Felix’s 1962 Senior Class of Burton High School; former employees of Brenham Ready Mix, Inc., Edgar Lee Lentz, the Rayburn Klussmann family of Brenham, and Darrin and Andrew Gorey of Sturbridge, Massachusetts.

Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather afterwards at Design II.
