Floy Sybil Bates, 79, of Brenham died August 11, 2007. Mrs. Bates was born January 4, 1928 in Gilmer, Texas to James Sidney and Dollie Mae Moore Bartlett. She was baptized July 8, 1979 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. She was a graduate of Luther Stark High School in Orange, Texas. On December 29, 1945 she married James D. Bates. He preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Bates operated a recreational/boat storage business. Survivors include sons Jerry Doyle Bates and wife Rachael of Gladewater, Robert Glenn Bates of Willis; daughter Kathy Dianne Fay of Brenham; brother Sydney Jr. Bartlett of Houston; sisters and brother-in-law Madeline Wilkerson and Wayne Wilkersonof Houston; grandchildren: Steven Bates; Lindsey Bates, Brandon Fay, and Jordan Bates; three great-grandchildren: Thomas, Taylor, and Thea Bates. Mrs. Bates was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg where she served on the church council; the Rocky Creek Fire Dept.; the Purple Hat Society of Brenham and Somerville, of which she was chairman; the Lioness Club, and she was a Burton Cotton Gin Supporter. Floy Bates never met a stranger who did not become her friend. She was always bright-eyed and smiling, ready to help anyone out, no matter where, when, or hour of the day! She loved to dance and mingle with her many friends and loved ones. There are many special memories of Jim and Flo dancing throughout the years. Funeral services for Floy Sybil Bates will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Jordan Bates, Steven Bates, Brandon Fay, Jim Bartlett, Wayne Bartlett, and Kasey Zientek. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Red Hat Ladies Groups of Brenham and Somerville. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
