Frances Barger Hamrick, 89, widow of Brock Hamrick, passed away February 21, 2011 in The Care Center of Brenham. Graveside services are scheduled for Thursday, February 24, 2011 11:00 a.m. in the Galveston Co. Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas. Dr. James Featherstone of the Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville will officiate. Visitation with family and friends will take place Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Frances Hamrick was born November 27, 1921 in Faxon, OK. to Charles and Lizzie Morgan Barger. After completing her education, she married Brock Hamrick in Galveston on Nov. 25, 1939, and took care of her family as a homemaker. Mrs. Hamrick was a longtime member of the Baptist Church. A member of the Rebekkah Lodge in Texas City, she also volunteered at the hospital in Texas City. In 1988, she and her husband moved to Brenham. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wayde and Cynthia Hamrick of Brenham; grandchildren: Susan Hamrick Eastland and husband Brian, Anne Hamrick Tarwater and husband Curtis; Karen Hawkins Skelton and husband Doug, and Richard Hawkins and wife Patty; great-grandchildren: Chase and Cullen Eastland, Reese and Lily Tarwater, Jennifer Zeidan and husband Ryan, and Douglas Skelton; special niece Christine Haddock, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Hawkins, along with nine brothers and sisters. Serving as pallbearers are Brian Eastland, Curtis Tarwater, Cullen Eastland, Douglas Skelton, Steven Kelsey, and Richard Hawkins. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or to any favorite charity.
