Born September 17, 1947 to parents Frank and Frances Davis Crawford in Brenham, TX.
He passed away on Saturday October 2, 2021 at Kruse Village.
The visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Wednesday October 6, 2021. A service will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on Thursday October 7, 2021 officiated by Pastor Geleske.
Fred grew up in Brenham and attended all twelve grades in BISD. He ran track in high school and graduated in May in 1966. He attended Blinn College, then transferred to The University of Texas in Austin. He graduated from UT with a Bachelor of Arts in Business on May 15, 1971. He was a member of Lamba Chi Alpha fraternity and a life member of Texas Ex-Student Association. While at UT he met JoAnn Harms, they were married in June of 1972. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of daughter Cynthia Leigh.
Fred worked for Conoco Oil of Houston after gradating from UT. A few years later, Fred returned to Brenham to run the Culligan Water Conditioning business. He and his dad worked together for a few years before his dad retired. Fred ran the business for 38 years retiring in July of 2012. The Crawford family owned the Culligan franchise in Brenham for a total of 64 years.
Fred spent many years devoted to his love of fishing.
Fred married Janice Gaskamp on April 24, 1986 and started their blended family. He was a fantastic husband and father. He instilled a strong work ethic in his children. He never missed a single function for his kids. He loved going to band concerts, and enjoyed being a part of the scouting program. He was always available to help move one of the children to a home or new apartment. He took great pride in watching the two oldest, Phillip and Cindy, graduate from college and Josh from Marine Corps Boot Camp. Fred loved his children with all his heart and truly loved his blended family.
His love for his grandchildren Gabi and Christian knew no bounds. They were the loves of his life.
Survivors include wife Janice Gaskamp Crawford; daughter, Cindy and husband Cesar Garay of Conroe; sons, Phillip Hadley of Brenham, and Joshua and wife Lauren Hadley of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Gabi and Christian Garay of Conroe; cousins, Emily and husband Eugene Fuchs of Hunt, Nancy Martin of Houston, Sue Crawford of Livingston, and Jane and husband Tom Newsom of Waco; sister-in-law, Donna Crawford of Liberty; nieces, Cathy and husband Jamee Houthoofd, Lynne and Carl Ogden of Clear Lake; nephew, Don and wife Laura Crawford of Leona; sister-in-law, Joyce Schaer of Bryan; nephews, Jason and Michael Schaer of Bryan/College Station; great nieces and nephews, Erin, Sara, Tyler and Alex.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darroll Crawford and Wayne Crawford; sister-in-law, Laverne Crawford; brother-in-law, Bill Schaer; cousins, Mary Ann and husband Larry Walters, Jimmy Thigpen and Ralph Martin.
Pallbearers are Don Crawford, Jason Schaer, Michael Schaer, Mack McLendon, Carl Ogden, Jamee Houthoofd and Joshua Hadley. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Hadley, David Dahmann, Gerald Herrman, Jack Montgomery and Bob Chappell.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306. W. Main St. Brenham, TX 77833.
