Our beloved husband, father, Papa and friend Fred Coles Kettrick was called home and is now in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Fred Coles Kettrick, 77, of Independence (Coles Settlement), the husband of Judy Young Kettrick, left this earthly life on June 23, 2019 in Conroe, Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Independence Baptist Church and burial will be in the Old Independence Cemetery.
Fred was born in Somerville, Texas on September 18, 1941 to William Fred Kettrick and Jessie Joyce McCrocklin. He graduated from school in Somerville, Texas. He was a 4th generation member of the oldest active Baptist church in Texas, Independence Baptist Church. This is where he loved to tell the family history of Independence to visitors of the Texas Baptist Historical Museum. Independence was originally called Coles Settlement after early settler Judge John Prince (J.P.) Coles, one of Stephen F. Austin’s Old Three Hundred and whom Fred was a proud 4th generation descendent.
His life on the road as a truck driver began at Dr. Pepper Bottling Company and then retired from Brenham Wholesale Grocery after over 20 years of service. He continued his life driving his lawn mower, mowing most of Independence and now he’s mowing the grass in Heaven.
He was the beloved husband of Judy, father of Donna Gandy, Mitchell Kettrick and wife Adriana and Rhonda Cupit and husband Greg. Proud Papa of Brandy Scholze and husband Jair, Chelsea Thornton and husband Danny, Shelby Kettrick, Katie Jo Mullins, Megan Gandy, Austin Cupit, Kellianne Cupit, Cheyenne Cupit, Justin Cupit, Jayden Scholze, Ashlynn Mullins. Also survived by brother-in-law L J Young and wife Mary, sister-in-law Gayle Maresh and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother Gertie Berry McCrocklin, aunts Madora McCrocklin, Georgia Burke, Eleanor Elizabeth McCrocklin and Bett Clay McCrocklin, uncles John Hunter McCrocklin and Jesse Burford “Doc” McCrocklin, cousin Evelyn Elizabeth Tate, brother-in-law Wayne Young, sisters-in-law Lavelle Young and Jackie Schindler Wallace.
His favorite past-time was having his morning coffee at the church, watching NASCAR and of course riding his lawn mower and mowing.
All who knew and loved Fred will deeply miss his unique humor and the stories he loved to share about his family history.
Cremation services are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel.
And when our days are done and we stand before him, we will hear
“well done, good and faithful servant”
Matthew 25:23
