Fred Ruemke

Fred Ruemke, 78, of Brenham, died March 27, 2003, in a Houston hospital. Mr. Ruemke was born Sept. 16, 1924, in the Zionsville community of Washington County, TX, to Reinhardt and Emma Heins Ruemke. He was baptized March 8, 1925, in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Greenvine Grammar School. Mr. Ruemke served in the Army from 1949 to 1950 during the Korean War. On Nov. 19, 1950, he was married to Lois Faye Bentke in St. John s Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. Mr. Ruemke was employed as a salesman for more than 30 years at Western Auto and later worked at Mickan Hardware. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brenham and the American Legion. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Larry Schneider of Houston; granddaughter, Amber Leigh Schneider of Houston; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Dorothy Bentke of Brenham, Herman and Donna Bentke of Brenham, Raymond and Verna Mae Bentke of Houston, Christine Bentke of Brenham, Rosa Ida Bentke of Houston, Mary Jo and Ervin Schulz of Brenham and Alma Place of Marquez. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Emma Bentke; wife, Lois Ruemke; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin Bentke, Bill and Georgia Mae Bentke, Alfred Bentke, Ida & Johnnie Kaechler and B.F. Place. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29 in First United Methodist Church in Brenham with Dr. Wesley Wellborn officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 28 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Terry Schulz, Matthew Bentke, Brad Bentke, Roger Bentke, Don Williams, Robert Walker, Charles Hertel and Ronnie Schulte. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church in Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
