Freddie Dahmann, 85, of Brenham, died May 9, 2005, at his residence. Mr. Dahmann was born Nov. 14, 1919, in William Penn, Texas, to Will and Augusta Engel Dahmann. He was baptized and confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Dahmann served in Africa, Italy and Europe and received two Purple Hearts. On Feb. 22, 1947, he was married to Esther Winkelmann in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. Mr. Dahmann was a retired corn sorter at Brenham Broom and Mop. Mr. Dahmann was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, where he served on the council and was an usher. He was also a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Prairie Hill-Rocky Hill Fire Department and Meyersville Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Esther Dahmann of Brenham; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Fred William and Karen Dahmann of Brenham, Douglas and Diane Dahmann of Spring and Carl Dahmann of Brenham; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Alex Grote of Brenham; 10 grandchildren, Danielle and Zachary Dahmann, Drew, Dylan and Derek Dahmann, Christopher, Stephen and Kristie Dahmann, and William and Amanda Grote; one brother, Melvin Dahmann of Brenham; one sister and brother-in-law, Willie Mae and Albert Boeker of Bryan; brothers-in-law sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae Dahmann, Willie Winkelmann, Myrtle Winkelmann, Bill Schwartz, Anita Bender, Laverna Winkelmann, LeeRoy and Delores Winkelmann, Ernest and Erline Wellmann and Odell and June Winkelmann; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by one of God s smallest angels, Julie Dahmann, his granddaughter. Other family members preceding him in death were his parents; Johnnie and Edna Dahmann, Woodrow Dahmann, Irene and Ervin Schroeder, Alita Winkelmann, Rienhard Winkelmann, Ida Schwartz, Raymond and Louise Winkelmann, Henry Bender, Wilbert Winkelmann and infant twin sisters; and nieces and nephews, Joyce Winkelmann, Billy Ray Schwartz, Allen Ray Bender, Arlene Winkelmann and Bradley Bender. The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill with Dr. Sue Beall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Dahmann s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill or Hospice of Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
