Freddie Dean Koonce, 57, of Brenham, went to his heavenly home on December 27, 2016 at Scott and White Hospital in College Station, with his loving family at his side.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin with Pastor Ken Weiss and Rev. Ron Perry officiating.
Fred was born September 15, 1959 at 29 Palms, CA. to Freddie Leon Koonce and Carolynn (Smith) Faulkner. Even though Fred was born in California, he always said he was a Texan.
On April 5, 2003, he married the love of his life, Linda Preuss. Together, they combined their families. Fred did not like to call Linda's children his step-children. He always said these are our kids.
Fred had several hobbies he enjoyed: talking with his friends on his HAM radio (KF5EBW), his CB radio, where he was known as Lost Warrior 851, going out with his metal detector, and meeting with friends at the park. But, his greatest enjoyments were family BBQ's and spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Popo. He was also fond of spoiling his dog Ryder, and his cat Lucy.
Fred served in the Marines from 1979 until 1982, and was honorably discharged as a corporal. He was very proud to be a Marine, and always said: "Once a Marine, always a Marine."
Survivors include his wife, Linda; daughters and sons-in-law Carolynn (Aaron) Roshto, Katherine Koonce, Lisa (David) Vasquez, all of Brenham; Kristin (Justin) Hawkins of Boone, NC; son and daughter-in-law Martin (Georgiane) Gessner of Brenham; grandchildren: Hailey and Anabelle Roshto, Noah, Allie, and Phoenix Vasquez, Ethan, Avery and Jedd Gessner, all of Brenham; sister, Sherry Koonce Bohannon of Mont Belvieu; brother and sister-in-law Beau (Stacey) Faulkner of Baycliff, uncle, Donald Koonce of Crosby, and mother-in-law, Jeanette Preuss of Brenham.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Faulkner; father-in-law, Robert E. Preuss.
