Fritz J. Neumann, 74, husband of Esther Richter Neumann, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Trinity Medical Center. Mr. Neumann was born September 9, 1935 in Prairie Hill, Washington County, to Fritz Henry Neumann and Rosa Spinn Neumann. He was baptized in St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church on November 10, 1935, by Pastor Hartman and confirmed April 2, 1950, by Rev. Paul Gogolin at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. He attended Williams School and University of Houston. Mr. Neumann served in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis. On June 30, 1957, he married Esther Richter in St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. Mr. Neumann was in the air conditioning business in Houston and in 1982 he opened Central Heating & Air in Brenham, which he operated until 2000. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham and served as property manager and 25 years as an usher; he was also a former member of Grace Lutheran Church, in Houston, where he served 27 years as an usher. He was a member of the American Legion and was Vice-Commander for 2 years. Mr. Neumann enjoyed collecting and restoring old tractors. He liked to spend time playing dominoes, loved music and was very mechanically inclined. He could spend hours reading about "old times". Survivors include he wife, Esther Neumann; son and daughter-in-law, Wade S. and Diane Neumann of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Dwayne Vann of Spring; grandchildren Allyson Neumann, Ashley Neumann, Samantha Lindsey and Grace Vann; brother, Guss Neumann and friend Rosa Lee Sommerfield; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Jr. and Alietha Richter of Brenham, Melvin and Sharon Richter of Houston, and Kermit Hugo and Josphine Folterman of Brenham. Preceding him in death were his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law. Funeral services for Fritz J. Neumann will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham, with Pastor Mike Button and Pastor Walt Schindehette officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday evening 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Robert Mantey, Will Hegar, James Nail, Clifford Fisher, William Ludwig, Ernest Neumann, Larry Remont and Donald Wendler. Honorary pallbearers Guss Neumann, Robert Menges, Edward Neumann, Jr., John Richter, Jr. Melvin Richter, Kermit Hugo, Harry Zientek, Albert Linke, Pastor Herb Palmer, Pastor Blair Lundborg and Pastor David Conrad. Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church of Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham. 979-836-4564.
