Geneva Clarice Askins, 89, died February 29, 2008, in Abilene, Texas. Mrs. Askins was born March 28, 1918. She and her late husband, E.J. Askins, moved to Brenham in 1938. They helped organize the first Cub Scout troop in Brenham. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Fortnightly Club, the Garden Club, the Heritage Society, Eastern Star, Rotary Anns, and Little Theatre. She assisted her husband as owner-administrator of the Brenham Rest Home. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Knox and Ann Askins of La Porte, and Robert and Deanna Askins of Abilene; grandchildren: Suzanne Neufeld of Broken Arrow, OK; Diane Zachry and husband Earl, and Paul Askins of Houston; James Askins and wife Wendy of The Woodlands; Sally Turner and Clark Askins and wife Shauna of La Porte; Barbara Richert and husband Ron, Debbie Fonner, and Lisa Lewis and husband Quinn, of Abilene, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2008, preceeding the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., all at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Rev. Dale Chance of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
