George Ewin Boswell Sr., 77 , of Brenham, died January 31, 2014 at Brenham Nursing and Rehab Center in Brenham. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday February 6, 2014. George was born on May 26, 1936 to John Thomas and Elsie Gay Boswell in Tangelwood, Tx. He was a member of the Cowboy Church of Brenham. After high school he received a football scholarship to Rice University, but instead he went with the Rodeo Circuit, as a calf roper, team roper and a Rodeo Clown. He was a member of The International Professional Rodeo Association. George was in the U.S. Army and served during the Berlin Crisis. George was a professional Horseshoer for over 50 years. He loved to travel, haul horses and loved to tell stories. George was a man of love, trust, honor and wisdom. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Survivors are; Special friend and love of his life Karen Harmel of Brenham, her daughter and son-in-law Mandy and Heath "Peanut" Kalkhake; and their sons Jackson and Kaiden; his sons and daughters-in-law George Jr. and Sharon Boswell of Brenham, and John and Judy Boswell of Giddings; daughter Gwyn Boswell of Waco; grandchildren; Micah Boswell, Jess Boswell, Andy, Zachary, Jennifer, Josh Mott, great grandchildren Chase, Braelyn & Gael; brothers and sister-in-law Richard Thomas and Doris Boswell of Giddings. His extended family: Robert Ladewig and family, Mary Kay Eldridge and family, Kenneth and Kathy Ladewig and family, Delbert and Helen Ladewig and family, Gary Ladewig and family, Ronnie and Jennifer Ladewig and family, Dena Janish and Kurt Koehler and family, Timmy and Lori Weigelt and family. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents. His first wife Paula Boswell, brothers, Gay, Gary, Barklay, and Barney, sisters Estelle Peebles and Shirley Copeland, and Dorothy Ladewig. Pallbearers will be John Earl Peebles, Rick Boswell, Richie Boswell, Ricky Hibbler, Ryan Ladewig, David Eldridge, Torrey Harrison and Wade Weigelt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Todd Chaddock, Dr. Glenn Gaines, Steve Valdez, Ray Pearson, Micah Boswell, Jess Boswell, Jackson Kalkhake, Kaiden Kalkhake, Brenham Bucks Baseball Team and Coaches, Nurses from Hospice and Brenham Nursing and Rehab that provided care for George. Memorials may be given to Brenham Brazos Valley Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
